Cloud9 terminate contracts of JT, motm, Sonic, T.c
Repeated violations of the company's COVID-19 policy by inviting guests to the Cloud9 team house has led to the termination of the quartet's contracts.
Cloud9 have terminated the contracts of Ian "?motm?" Hardy, Johnny "?JT?" Theodosiou, Aran "?Sonic?" Groesbeek, and coach Tiaan "?T.c?" Coertzen after they were found to be in violation of the company's COVID-19 policy, according to Dust2.us and Rush B Media.
The team had previously received written and verbal warnings after violating the company's policy by inviting guests over to the Cloud9 team house, and have now had their contracts terminated due to a second offence of the same clause.
"The details that really matter is this was the second offence of unauthorized guests coming into Cloud9 property after being told that this is not all acceptable," Cloud9 CEO Jack Etienne said in a statement to the two publications. "The reason it is not acceptable is because you are putting our staff at risk."
The four members were asked to move out of the team house following the termination of their contracts, with Cloud9 finding and paying for new accommodations through Monday, October 26. The organisation also offered to move the players' belongings to their new accommodations, or work with them on how to proceed.
Notably, Josh "?oSee?" Ohm is not included among the players who had their contracts terminated as he does not live at the team house, leaving him as the sole remaining contracted player of the former Cloud9 roster.
The South African trio will need to find a new organisation to call home post-haste if they wish to remain in the United States as their P1-visas are set to expire in 30 days, after which they would be required to return to their home country. Additionally, JT and motm have announced their free agency since the publication of the story.
