cogu joins MIBR as manager and coach

The Brazilian legend will be hoping to restore some order to the team during these tough times.

MIBR have announced that they have secured the services of veteran Raphael "?cogu?" Camargo, who becomes the manager and coach of their team. The announcement comes at a delicate moment for the Brazilian squad, who are racing against the clock to find three players before the BLAST Premier Fall Series and Flashpoint 2.

cogu competed in three different iterations of Counter-Strike (1.6, CS:Source and CS:GO), donning MIBR's colors between 2004 and 2008. He is widely regarded as one of the finest AWPers in the history of the franchise and played a key role in Brazil's ascension to relevance as he helped MIBR to win the ESWC title in 2006.

cogu will once again wear MIBR's jersey

cogu, who has signed a contract until the end of the year, joins MIBR just days after leaving Falkol's VALORANT squad. In a Youtube video, the 35-year-old admitted to being thrilled to return to the team that he took to the top during his playing days.

"I'm very happy to be back and very hyped up," he said. "I could barely sleep until everything was settled. I'm giving up on a lot of things to pursue the dream of mine, which is to be champion. I'll be there to help MIBR, that is what you can expect from me."

cogu is the first addition to MIBR since the organisation decided to dispense with the services of Fernando "?fer?" Alvarenga, Epitacio "?TACO?" de Melo, and coach Ricardo "?dead?" Sinigaglia. Unhappy with the decision, team captain Gabriel "?FalleN?" Toledo opted to step down from the lineup, which is depleted to just two players, Vito "?kNgV-?" Giuseppe and Alencar "?trk?" Rossato.

According to a recent report from Globo Esporte, MIBR are lining up temporary moves for Lucas "?LUCAS1?" Teles, Vinicius "?vsm?" Moreira and Leonardo "?leo_drk?" Oliveira as they look to put together a team for BLAST Premier Fall Series and Flashpoint 2. In cogu's unveiling video, kNgV- said that the final three players "have already reached agreements with MIBR" and should be unveiled soon.

MIBR, who will be staying in Serbia to compete in these tournaments, have been placed in Group C of BLAST Premier alongside Astralis, FURIA and G2. They will take on the Danish side in their first match of the $150,000 tournament, scheduled for November 2.

    The Brazilian team currently have:

    Brazil Vito "?kNgV-?" Giuseppe
    Brazil Alencar "?trk?" Rossato

    Brazil Raphael "?cogu?" Camargo (coach/manager)

When in mTw.dk I was saying that he is active in cs scene like a player He never gave up from the game like cogu did when the crisis come in 2009 he is far from CS for more than a decade he try to play footbal poker and valorant do you think he has knowladge enough for a t1 competition He is far from the knowledge of Zonic, Zews, Guerri they are working in counter strike for a long long time. Cogu just want to earn some money the guys is broken probably don't even have a college degree.
    2020-10-23 14:03
damn what a great assumption, one of the greatest 1.6 players of all time has now become the manager and coach of one of the biggest CS franchises in the world... He must know nothing about go right !? Most pro players u see now a days have been playing professionally or semi professionally since the 1.6 days, and most of the coachs (since they′re almost always older then the players) were 1.6 player as well. So yes he definitely knows 0 abou cs.

Im cautiously optimistic about this. Cogu wasn’t good in CSGO but was a fucking legend on 1.6. If he’s completely dedicated on this and can bring his game read to the table, I think MIBR can come back to tier 1 NA scene. About the roster, I’m not so hyped. Maybe if Fallen comes back (he already said on stream that he’s not playing for MIBR this year since he’s not returning to Europe for personal reasons - he wants to be with his family), and they pick one or two players from Team One and BOOM we can expect great things.
    2020-10-22 01:09
nice, easy money for cogu, legend that deserves it but he dont know anything about cs go, so basicly mibr dont have a coach, MAYBE a manager in terms of professionalism in another words, mibr is will be worse than before, sad but true.

being a legend doesn't necessarily make you a good coach especially when you’ve never played that role before but I understand that under the circumstances they were desperate for an impactful name

cogu has been extremely focused on playing VALORANT since it came out, the annoucement as manager make some sense, but as coach he's probably gonna be garbage
    2020-10-22 02:46
everything I had to say FNX already said in its Tweet in 2016

This brings me good memories from the time I used to play CS. HLTV should interview some old school legends, I would love to see XeqtR, elemeNt, zet, fury... :')

    Tbh this won't change anything...

His career as a coach has been without any success, so I'm surprised they took him, weird but we will see.

Most likely, other than that I see no reason to add him honestly.

Again Big hype for Brazilians, still gives nothing for MiBR

mibr cogu very nice. Good luck as a coach!
    2020-10-22 12:00
The duration of his contract shows you just how much trust they have in him, LOL. This is a marketing move, they don't have fallen anymore and are afraid of losing the fanbase.

Probably the best move MIBR can make in hopes of salvaging the almost destroyed brand. Hopefully he can turn the ship around now that Fallen and his boys are out.

Legendary player. GL! What is it about these brazilian awpers? Ever since competitive CS started it looks like always at least one brazilian awp superstar has been around.
    2020-10-22 16:12
It doesn′t matter who Cogu is or what have him done. We are talking about a stand-in roster with a manager/coach signed for just TWO MONTHS. Two. Months. I hope mibr get it shit together, renew it roster and reach the level to reach at least a relevant tournament semi-final. It would be very cool to its fans. But it′s useless to talk about a 2 months worth decisions, it means almost nothing.

Sure! And I fully support it. I really think that the strategy of bringing stand-ins for this 2 events is correct, the problem is at the communication with the fanbase, they are talking about project and long terms with Cogu, it doesn′t make sense at the moment, hope it will do in the future. Sometimes saying nothing is better than saying what the people want to hear (read) and losing credit along the way. (I wrote CREDIT thinking about truthfulness. Is that right?)
    2020-10-22 19:25
Poor Cogu... another victim of MIBR...
    2020-10-22 20:44
Fans: we follow the players, not the org MIBR: Ok, take it *brings cogu* Fans: I'm ur bicth now Here we go again
    2020-10-22 20:59
    rip mibr, go furia
