Playoffs teams decided at IEM New York CIS

Two teams are through to the semi-finals and four to the quarter-finals after the conclusion of the group stage of the Regional Major Ranking tournament.

With most playoffs spots decided ahead of the last day of the group stage, eyes were on Natus Vincere in Group A on Wednesday as the tournament favorites fought for their lives in the RMR tournament after a shaky group stage performance that had seen them lose 0-2 series to forZe and Virtus.pro.

The Kirill "?Boombl4?" Mikhailov-led team needed to win their last series against Espada without dropping a map and managed to do just that, in the end, to squeeze out of the group stage by the skin of their teeth as they came second in a three-way tie with forZe and Espada on map difference.

mir dominated the group stage with a 1.40+ average rating

Picking up first place and a spot in the semi-finals, Virtus.pro passed the group with flying colors, conceding only two maps across five successful series, with Andrey "?Jerry?" Mekhryakov & co. having to settle for second place in the group after losing to Dzhami "?Jame?" Ali's side in the last round.

Meanwhile, Group B's advancing teams had been decided ahead of the last three matches of the round robin. Spirit had guaranteed themselves first place with an undefeated record, while Gambit and Nemiga had only had a match for quarter-final seeding left to play, which the former team went on to win to earn a Natus Vincere matchup in the first round of playoffs.

The playoffs will kick off on Friday, October 23 with the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals on Saturday and the grand final on Sunday:

    Friday, October 23 (Quarter-finals)
14:00 Russia Natus Vincere vs. Russia Gambit
17:30 Russia forZe vs. Belarus Nemiga

    Saturday, October 24 (Semi-finals)
    14:00 CIS Virtus.pro vs. NAVI/Gambit
    17:30 Russia Spirit vs. forZe/Nemiga

Don't compare Gambit with forze and VP. At the same time Navi usually steps up in the playoffs so we'll see

I agree on that, but I guess they didn't prepare so much for this tournament as b1ad3 said that it would've been a better decision to skip this tournament and focus only on the Blast.

Cis has only 2 spots for legends so it would help even if navi win two or three matches the enitire tournament but yeah if they are focusing on prize money blast should be the main focus

unless there is another rmr, espada is out of the major, because it had a 1 map difference vs NAVI meanwhile, nemiga gets through to the next round. Espada beat forze, had the second-highest RD, and equal point with Navi and forze and come 7-8???????????/

Espada is 2-3 on the head to head with Forze And Na'Vi They deserve to be out Also, the thing with nemiga is dumb since they are 3rd without any tie at all.

the point was that navi and forze are both FAR stronger than nemiga and gambit and it was poor seeding by esl that created a unfair group eg, swapping gambit and forze in groups would create a gambit vs espada battle for 3th place in group A and a nemiga vs winstike battle in group b. a far fairer group stage
    2020-10-21 21:17
it was in their hands just get 1 map vs Navi. Otherway around nobody would say "unlucky" for navi. People would say "deserve" cuz it was in their hands...

navi vs forze were trolling but against espada they came in full force Espada would have being through if navi played against forze the same way they played today but its dumb that nemiga gets a easy path to the major, losing to both gambit and spirit and only beating weak teams, meanwhile espada played far more difficult teams, beating one of them and only losing due to map difference

winning one match aint really a recovery , teams like Spirit, VP and Forze have looked to be in far better shape than NaVi in this tournament so far. If they all continue their form , i see NaVi with no chance,

It doesnt make any sense, Espada won Forze, Forze won NaVi, NaVi won Espada; so the 3 are tie. The 3 have 9 points, 3 wins and 2 loses. Espada and NaVi won 6 maps and lost 5 Maps, so they are tie in that too. But Espada have 16 round of difference and NaVi 7. So, why NaVi advanced to playoffs and Espada not ?

well you mentioned it yourself, NaVI having less Round DIfference compared to Espada , hence they qualify. I know it kinda does sound like senseless but these types of close ties are expected in no bracket group stages with quite a many teams. Tough luck for them.

The CIS major spots are locked with the exception of Gambit or forZe. If forZe lose to Nemiga, then Gambit secure the 5th spot at Major regardless of their result against Na'Vi. But if forZe wins and Gambit loses then forZe will be the 5th team to represent CIS. BUT...if both teams lose, they will play in the 5th place tiebreaker, where the winner will clinch the last Major spot.
